I bet the next panel is “OMG I WILL NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN!!! WHOOOO!!!” because that is what all of my Korean friends did once they realized that their college was 10+ hours away from their parents… and they couldn’t make them go to bed… at 8pm… after studying for 10 hours straight… on Saturday.
I don’t know, I tend to think Asian kids are closer to their parents on the whole. Asian kids don’t typically put their parents in retirement homes when they get old, for example.

I’m almost bummed that he laments not seeing his parents before not seeing Yumi…but then, he might lament that more vociferously…

Fantastic pacing here. the change from the activity / pacing of the previous panels, and the extra space, really adds to the sense of pathos
