You know what’s tripping me out on this page? The arrangement of the panels and their varying sizes. Placing your panels in that window and on that star-field is already very…tone-setting.

The panel arrangements just make me think. I’d love to know how you make decisions about panel placement.

Of course, as I look at it again, I see that the actual artwork is all the same size here, that the variations occur to accommodate speech balloons.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

It’s a system I devised and honed specifically for myself after years and years of working in the medium. I love it. It’s so much easier and conducive to editing when you create each panel separately and then compose the pages after all the panels are done. Then you can really pace the story exactly how you want instead of letting the confines of the page dictating the pacing for you.

I think I might try this method myself. I have such a tough time with panel composition and placement that the art itself suffers as I try to shoehorn it in to the confines of the page/square.

I’m also pleasantly surprised you’re so readily accessible via comments. With most of the well known artists I follow, I’m so used to assuming you guys are on your busy busy mountain bestowing goodies, but we’ll never get a chance to talk or ask questions.

Ah hah … but how does this unseen guy know so much? Maybe he is a Praxian prisoner? I.e. the zoo is also a jail for native malcontents?

OOOOHHHH!!!! This is why they considered the dancing to be obscene! Too much creativity!

But what about entertainment, like comedy? Not only can he watch TV, but he also learned that by playing the fool for his audience, he can get a laugh. Does slapstick not count as creativity? Or maybe it’s funny when it’s accidental or natural, and they would be horrified if they realized that some of his antics were an act?

Or maybe I’m over-thinking this whole thing and I should shut up and enjoy the ride?

    Umm.. this explains a lot.

I wonder what Andy is about to sketch here… “God”?

I really enjoy your comic, it’s truly awesome.
On the last page I mentioned a discrepance. The fact that creativity is banned and condemned by the authorities conflicts with the floral antenna on the boys head from page 165ff.
Unless the antenna is part of the body and not part of the suit or, the boy is a resistance fighter :D

Boy, I love hearing everyone’s theories on all the crazy mysteries. Great thoughts, everyone. I can say that almost everything you guys are ruminating about will be answered eventually…
