When I was doing some speaking engagements at high schools in France some years ago, I remember getting the biggest reaction when I told the kids Koreans like to have soup for breakfast. They thought that was the weirdest thing. Don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it, mon ami!

My father-in-law is French and never ever eats soup for lunch or breakfast. There’s some kind of social stigma where soup is associated with being poor. But soup for dinner, anytime!

Y’know, soup for breakfast makes a lot of sense. It’s light, protein-rich, warm, and easy to digest. Pretty much like eggs, sausage, or any other breakfast food. Besides, a bowl of Cheerios is basically just a cold soup.
