Ahh, the social stigma of “art” as a career choice. It couldn’t be more relevant in this slide. Parents have always perceived their children’s future success or failure by what they are majoring in and are often quick to judge on those majors that they don’t truly understand.
But perhaps the fault does not lie on the parent’s perception but merely the society as a whole, in which certain skills are often more valued than others. This paradigm often shifts from time to time, but nowadays
when you hear someone being a doctor or lawyer or engineer, you know they’ll most likely be financially successful. An artist? Not so much.
It’s interesting how this comic shows themes like these and make us reflect on the modern world’s way of thinking. Who knows? Maybe people reading this comic would truly appreciate art once more and give it its value back, causing yet another shift to the paradigm.
